Daniel’s Writing

Biblical Fiction

The Wolf and the Lamb

“That’s Layla,” Zamir said gruffly. “Stay away.”
Is she Zamir’s woman?
“I was just—she looked like the woman that gave us bread in Jerusalem, that’s all.”
The stocky newcomer seemed to find the exchange amusing. “That’s because they’re sisters,” he said. “Welcome to The Family, Jared. Let’s go inside your tent and talk.”
“Thanks,” Jared said, unsure of what to say. “And you are?”
“I’m in charge here. Name’s Barabbas.”

The Wolf and the Lamb

A young Jewish rebel learns that running off with Barabbas’ girlfriend to follow Jesus can be more perilous than defying the Romans. When Barabbas is captured and taken prisoner by the enemy, the bandits suspect Jared of betrayal, and coerce him into leading a final, suicidal mission.

I hope to find a publisher for this completed novel soon. I am more passionate about The Wolf and the Lamb than anything else I’ve written, and pray it will engage and inspire readers in the near future.

Encounters with Jesus

I have written a number of biblical short stories, based on characters in the Bible or characters that could have existed during that era. One of these short stories, not included in Encounters with Jesus, was the inspiration for my novel The Wolf and The Lamb.

This collection is available now for free with a subscription to my e-mail list. Below is a list of the stories included.

Shadow

A dark tale of an evil force that is thwarted by the all-powerful Messiah.

Rooftop

Unable to sleep, an excited fisher of men climbs onto the roof where he finds his new mentor watching the stars. A stunning display in the night leaves him in wonderment at the rabbi who’d asked him to drop everything and follow his steps.

Stones

Forced into prostitution, a disgraced adulteress is entrapped by the religious elite, and threatened with stoning for her infidelity.

Mud

Blind, depressed, and begging on the steps of the great temple. A few hours later, everything has flipped, and Nadav finds himself taking in the wonders of the holy site. But once dragged inside the temple’s Chamber of the Hewn Stones, he’s forced to testify against the very man who healed him, with even his parents hoping he’ll back down. But Nadav has one friend on his side – the great teacher and Pharisee Nicodemus.

Ear

With the help of a traitor, Malchus, the ambitious servant to the high priest, leads a Roman envoy in the middle of the night to arrest a dangerous blasphemer.

Beams

A condemned bandit struggles to understand the man hanging next to him.

Cloak

On the first Easter Sunday, despondent travelers meet a stranger who changes their lives.

The Billy Omaha Series

Billy Omaha enjoyed being homeless. He savored the anonymity. Knew how to use it to his advantage. Like on this day, with this guy…

The Informant

Omaha, a former Marine Raider battling PTSD, wanders Seattle, attempting to bury his haunting memories. He’d prefer to mind his own business. But fate has other ideas, refusing to allow him to wallow. Compelled by his moral compass, Billy confronts each challenge, administering his own brand of justice.

The Scapegoat

The first novel in the Billy Omaha series

Having turned to alcohol, former Marine Raider Billy Omaha has isolated himself from his ex-wife and stepdaughter to protect them from his anger. When Billy becomes the prime suspect in a murder investigation, his search for the killer uncovers a drug pipeline run by Mexican and Chinese cartels. To avoid capture, overcome his PTSD, and bring the cartels to justice, Billy must enlist the help of a disgraced DEA agent he blames for the breakup of his marriage.

My debut thriller is the first novel in the Billy Omaha series. I am currently seeking representation. Subscribe below to receive occasional updates about the status of The Scapegoat and other works I have in progress.

The Informant

A Billy Omaha short story

To the guy dragging a girl along the pre-dawn sidewalk, Omaha must have looked like nothing more than a homeless drunk sleeping one off. But Billy recognized the guy. He’d watched him pass with a girl in hand a few days earlier. A different girl.

Most people would have obeyed their pounding head and gone back to sleep. Rationalized the event as a coincidence. Made excuses for the guy. But Billy’s not most people.

The Informant is a stand-alone short story featuring Billy Omaha. To whet your appetite for more Omaha, I am giving it away for free! Simply sign up for my blog and newsletter below, and you’ll be redirected to where you can download my free stories, including The Informant.

Historical Fiction

Babylonian Dawn

A sweeping tale of two princes and their quests from opposite sides of the battlefield to grow into the leaders their fathers envision.

Seeking to destroy the last bastion of the Assyrian empire, Prince Nebuchadnezzar leads the Babylonian army, built by his father, against the stronghold of Carchemish. But just when victory appears inevitable, Egyptian forces, led by Pharaoh Necho, arrive by land and sea to ally with the Assyrians.

Prince Nefer, the son of Necho, is unexpectedly thrown into a leadership role when his father is injured. The prince battles to save his father and to fend off the advancing Babylonians, using the captured Princess Amytil as a bargaining chip.

Babylonian Dawn is a full-length historical novel that was written several years ago. I am currently revising the work, using lessons I’ve learned while studying the art of writing. I am also writing a sequel to Babylonian Dawn that follows the exploits of a retired Babylonian warrior, years later, as King Nebuchadnezzar works to expand his empire.
